Mr. Seitaro Nakanishi ___ Edo Sashimono Factory

Sashimono is a traditional wood crafting which uses no metal nails. Mr. Nakanishi mainly manufactures products which are used in traditional Japanese music, namely samisen(three-stringed Japanese banjo), music stands of all kinds. The name Sashimono comes from its technique of crossing(called Sashiawase) board and stick. In Ieyasu Tokugawa's era, craftsman within carpenters who had this techniques were called Sashimono craftsman. What is difficult about this is that craftsman must use appropriate wood material for appropriate place chosen from variety of wood material kinds. It requires many years of experience. For appearance, the merit of grain is fully used, and even the parts where you would not see are finished with techniques of craftsman.

Mr. Minoru (Shinsho) Tabei ___ Tabei Sunago-shi Factory

Sunago is powder of real gold, real silver, platinum, etc. Sunago-shi draws patterns in sliding doors, and folding screens by spreading the sunago. It is said that this techniques was started in Asuka-Era to make Buddha pictures and copied Buddhist scriptures look gorgeous. Pictures were drawn by painters, and sunago-shi draws a pattern. The procedures were done by assembly work. Mr. Tabei is now challenging to draw landscape paintings only with sunago.

Mounting handicraft's history is said to began around the era in which Buddhism was introduced to Japan. Mr. Ishii repairs old Kakejiku(hanging scrolls) and Byoubu(folding screens).
